“Palm Sunday” (Edited)

Yesterday was Palm Sunday. Here is a poem about it, which I am also posting at my Substack.

Update 3/30/26: I made a change in the first stanza that I hope is an improvement.

Palm Sunday

As you came into Jerusalem,
The way was decked with palms
      From living trees.
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
      Was their psalm.
Soon you would mount a living tree
With nails through feet and palms
      Between two thieves.
“God, why have you forsaken me?”
      Was your Psalm.
Lord, let me shadow underneath,
   Praying with upraised palms,
      your apple-tree.
Let “Jesus, Son of David, God!”
      Be my psalm.
