“Love and Fear”: Another Epigram by Henrik Harder

Here is another epigram from Henrik Harder, this one on the disanalogy between love and fear in relation to God and men: that is, if one loves God, he will love his fellow men; if one fears God, he will not fear his fellow men.

The poem is just one elegiac couplet. I’ve used an iambic tetrameter followed by an iambic pentameter.

Enjoy!

AMOR ET TIMOR

Homines amabit quisquis amaverit Deum,

     Homines timebit nemo qui timet Deum.

“Love and Fear”

     Whoever loves God loves men too;

No one who fears God fears what men can do.
